Echo HC-2020 Hedge Trimmer Parts

Echo HC-2020 Hedge Trimmer Parts product photo

The Echo HC-2020 is a self-contained, double-sided gas hedge trimmer with its own 2-stroke engine - not the PAS attachment covered elsewhere on this site. It takes a Zama RB-K118/RB-K119 carburetor (genuine A021004900), a X412000770 blade, and its own A051003390 recoil starter.

Echo sells three different things that all answer to "hedge trimmer parts": the PAS attachment that bolts onto a trimmer power head, the smaller homeowner HC-150/HC-152 that shares its engine with the SRM-210/225 family, and the HC-2020 below - a bigger, self-contained commercial trimmer with its own carburetor family. Genuine numbers for the HC-2020 are below.

The carburetor is shared across a whole family of commercial double-sided hedge trimmers. The blade, air filter cover and recoil starter are not all shared the same way - check the note on the recoil starter before ordering by family name alone.

A self-contained gas trimmer, not the PAS attachment

Echo's homeowner range does not include a standalone gas hedge trimmer - it sells a PAS attachment that clips onto an existing trimmer power head instead. The HC-2020 sits outside that range entirely: it is a complete, self-contained commercial trimmer with its own engine, carburetor and throttle, built for crews who are trimming hedges all day rather than occasionally running an attachment off a trimmer.

It is also a different machine from Echo's smaller homeowner hedge trimmers, the HC-150 and HC-152, which share their engine, carburetor and air filter with the SRM-210/225 trimmer family documented on the other model pages on this site. The HC-2020's Zama RB-K118/RB-K119 carburetor is unique to this larger commercial range and does not fit the HC-150 or HC-152.

Same carburetor family, different recoil starter

The HC-2020, HC-2420, HC-3020, HCS-3020 and HCS-4020 all share the same genuine carburetor, A021004900 - a listing that quotes any of those model numbers is a valid source for this one part. The recoil starter does not follow the same pattern: the HC-2020 takes its own A051003390 assembly, while the larger HC-2420, HC-3020, HCS-3020 and HCS-4020 take a different number, A051002791.

That split is easy to miss, because most aftermarket listings bundle the whole model range together under one title. If a starter cord is not pulling back cleanly or the rope has frayed, match the recoil starter number to the HC-2020 specifically rather than ordering from a generic "fits HC-2020/HC-2420/HC-3020" listing that is really built for the bigger machines in the family.

The blade: sharpening versus replacement

The HC-2020 runs a 20-inch double-sided reciprocating blade, genuine number X412000770 - close in size to, but not the same part as, the 21-inch double-sided PAS attachment blade covered on the hedge trimmer attachment page. A blade that is cutting slow but still closing cleanly can usually be filed back to a working edge; one with chipped or bent teeth, or play in the reciprocating action itself, needs the full blade replaced rather than sharpened.

Keep the gearcase behind the blade greased on the same schedule as any other Echo reciprocating hedge trimmer - a dry gearcase is what turns a simple blade swap into a bigger repair.

Starting and running right

A HC-2020 that will not start follows the same cheap-part-first order as every other Echo two-stroke on this site: check the fuel filter and primer bulb first, then the spark plug, and only then the Zama RB-K118/RB-K119 carburetor itself. The full diagnostic order is on the won't-start page.

Fuel is the same 50:1 Power Blend mix used across the rest of Echo's two-stroke range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What carburetor does the Echo HC-2020 use?

A Zama RB-K118 or RB-K119, genuine Echo number A021004900. It is shared with the HC-2420, HC-3020, HCS-3020 and HCS-4020, and is not the carburetor used on the smaller homeowner HC-150/HC-152 or the PAS hedge trimmer attachment.

Is the HC-2020 the same as Echo's PAS hedge trimmer attachment?

No. The PAS attachment has no engine of its own and bolts onto a trimmer power head. The HC-2020 is a complete, self-contained gas hedge trimmer with its own engine and carburetor.

Does the HC-2020 use the same recoil starter as the HC-2420 or HC-3020?

No. The HC-2020 takes its own A051003390 recoil starter. The larger HC-2420, HC-3020, HCS-3020 and HCS-4020 take a different number, A051002791, even though all five models share the same carburetor.

What blade does the Echo HC-2020 take?

A genuine 20-inch double-sided reciprocating blade, part number X412000770. It is a different part from the 21-inch double-sided blade used on Echo's PAS hedge trimmer attachment.

Is the HC-2020 the same as the smaller Echo HC-150 or HC-152?

No. The HC-150 and HC-152 are smaller homeowner hedge trimmers that share their engine and carburetor with the SRM-210/225 trimmer family. The HC-2020 is a larger commercial model with its own Zama RB-K118/RB-K119 carburetor.
